The ballad of the Gypsy Queen is a love song. It tells the tale of a young cowboy who falls in love with a wild gypsy. He has a rival though in the form of the evil gambler Dark Pete. After competing for her charms neither ends up with her as sick of their fighting she shoots both of them dead.
The song is loosely based on the early romance between Lyndsey Gregory and Iain Davies. The spectre of Lyndseys ex Matt Orrs creating a gulf between them that not even true love could bridge.
The hauntingly beautiful tune performed so excellently by Dobba has survived the test of time and can still be heard today on TV Tampon commercials.
