Dobba - Guitar
Norbert - Vocals During Norbert’s early career as a tea boy and filing clerk for Derbyshire County Council he was seconded to a major project. This was at a time when privatisation was taking off in a big way and the local authorities had to put all their internal duties out to tender. One of these being the cleaning contract for all DCC properties. A team was formed to undertake the huge task of measuring, by hand, every DCC owned school, office, sports centre etc etc in the county. A bunch of wastrels and misfits were assembled and given laser measuring devices, clipboards and bottomless expenses accounts and put to work. One of these wastrels was Norbert and the other a one legged former school caretaker called Sean Boyle. Sean had a blue automatic Austin Maxi and thus the inspiration for a song was born.
Sean wasn't actually that funny a bloke really, it was just his car that was hilarious. A monstrous box on wheels that could do 40mph if really pushed. The song see's Dobba open with the intro to the Formula 1 music off the telly (to those in the know its actually taken from Fleetwood Macs' "The Chain"). It then turns into a staccato guitar riff perfectly complemented by Norberts vocals. Norbert sings in a strange pseudo gruff tone that echoes the sounds of the working man as he sups his pint in the back street boozer. The song was a big hit with Norberts colleagues at DCC but ignored by almost everyone else, mainly because they didn't know who Sean Boyle was and had never ridden in his car. After this track Booga rejoined the band and they went onto hit the heights they could only dream of as the band entered its golden era. The Austin Maxi. Incredibly over 450,000 of these piles of shite were built between 1968 and 1977.
