Obscene is the story of Gwegory Wobert Hawisson (See his notes in the Who's who)
Gwegory had an unfortunate affliction in that every other word that came out of his mouth was a swear word, together with his Kentish brogue he was in fact the first "Chav". He didn't have the clothes or the car but he was a pioneer of designer swearing.
The song charts his love of fishing, drinking, Rachel Treece and football.

Two years after the song was released BBC1's Q.E.D programme, broadcast a documentary called "Johns Not Mad" about a poor unfortunate youth who had Tourettes Syndrome. The Fingolstones were horrified, for it seemed that poor old Greg was actually suffering from a medical condition and wasn't just uncouth. An apology was swiftly issued and the song withdrawn from general sale. It thrived however as an underground cult classic so much so that a sequel was issued in 1990 (see notes on Obscene 1990 Lawson's Song).

Thankfully over the years Tourettes Syndrome has become better understood by the public and is now seen not as a life changing debilitating disease but something that should be openly laughed at as it is extremely funny.

Interestingly, a big influence on The Fingolstones were the hugely talented "The Macc Lads". It seems that the Fingolstones were also an influence on them, for soon after the release of Obscene 1990 the Macc Lads rewrote the lyrics of their classic opus "Buenos Aries". They changed the theme of the song from that of the
Falklands War to that of the first Gulf War and called it "Buenos Aries 1990".The same blatant cashing in that The Fingolstones had just done. The Fingolstones didn't sue them for breach of copy write though as they respected them to much (and they are very hard and would probably have kicked their heads in).

Norbert and Gweg, Obscene in more ways than one.
