With "The Abandoned Motorbike Thieves" the Fingolstones produced their most "folksy" song yet. Like all good folk songs it tells a story and has a moral to it as well. In this case unless you're Nicholas Cage in "Gone In 60 Seconds" forget auto crime, it aint for you.

The story in this song is a true one that involved Norberts brother Scott and his two bessie mates Pete Mellors (brother of AHC member Karen)and Mark Ambidge. One day they were out together, bored and with nothing to do when they came across a seemingly abandoned motorcycle. Hmm they thought, a seemingly abandoned motorcycle, what shall we do. Not being overly blessed in the brains dept they decided to try and start it. As they were only young lads at the time (14yrs ish) they had no idea how to actually go about hot wiring it so they decided that if they threw bricks at it hard enough and for long enough then the bike would start. Obviously it didn't and whilst engaged in these actions they were caught by the fuzz (not literally) and banged up in Chokey. The Coppers upon realising that they were not dealing with the Kray brothers let them off with a warning.

The tune is a simple folksy melody written by Dobba who also provides lead vocals. Norbert plays Bass Guitar (ie an old guitar with only the thick string at the top working, as on Walking Through Birdholme) and he also sings harmonies (sort of) on the chorus.

Chorus
With a Down Down, Down Derry Down
With a Down Down, Down Derry Down

Now all good men come listen here
Draw up your chair and bring your beer
I'll tell you now one and all
The fate that lately did befall
The Abandoned Motorbike Thieves

Chorus

The gang was led by gormless Pete
The meanest guy you'd ever meet
His height was only 4 feet 4
And his family they were very poor
So he became a Motorbike Thief

Chorus

The muscleman was ruthless Scott
Who liked to kick and hit a lot
He was a hard man this is sure
As wide and as broad as a shithouse door
An Abandoned Motorbike Thief

Chorus

Ambidge was the brainy man
And the guy who made the master plan
That they should try a new pitch
And nick a bike left in a ditch
Becoming Motorbike Thieves

Chorus

But you must have heard how crime don't pay
And before the boys could get away
The law had foiled their little plan
And shut the boys up in the can
As Abandoned Motorbike Thieves

Chorus

So all good men take heed this song
And watch that you don't do no wrong
Be sure if any bike you see
You leave it wherever it may be
Or you'll be a Motorbike Thief

Chorus
